It’s important to get the finessing of the parts just right for the mirror tilt mechanism, and in this episode, we show the best way to create the solidity we need – including mortising in the main stem to the box area of the drawer base. Paul wanted a simple approach so that whoever changes the mirror presentation simply pulls the mirror forward from the bottom of the mirror, and the stay-behind drops automatically into saw-tooth-type notchings. It is also important to align the mirror to the supports on either side – easy enough when you see how.
he makes it look so easy!
oh yea what was the finish, it looks so good on the oak.
i’d say a mix of boiled linseed oil and paste wax or beesax, most probably commercialy premade.
Great project Paul, really enjoyed it.
Bravo, Paul. Always a pleasure to watch you work and to listen to you teach.
