Welcome! / Forums / Project Series / Dovetail Boxes / Sketchup drawing of the Pencil/file box
I have been playing around with Sketchup 8, free software formally from Google but now Trimble, drawing up a diagram of a small pencil box based on Paul’s latest box with a sliding lid. I still have to add the bottom and lid but I used it to try and understand the problems I will have with the groove interfering with the dovetails on the back of the box. As you will see I will have quite a problem which I may have to adjust the dovetails on the back of the box or just go ahead and have a go at the complicated joint. I think I may also have a problem getting the front of the box flush with groove too based on the drawing …. but I guess that what the learning curve I’m on with Paul’s lessons is all about. I’m sure when next week’s episode comes out I will see where all my errors are.
If you haven’t seen Sketchup before I recommend giving it a try as its free and quite easy to learn. I’ve just started and am sure I will get a lot better as I start to document all these projects.
Seems you can’t upload Sketchup drawing to this site, I got an error that the file type was not allowed 🙁 so it will have to be a JPEG screen print for now.
