Looks fantastic David. It really does.
It seems like it would be really easy to have an unintended gap running down the center between the two boards. Super accurate marking must be critical to prevent that, correct?
I wonder if wedged tenons would be more forgiving…
Looks really good David! Nice job! It is encouraging the way you worked through your issues.
Thanks guys I did show the best face the back side does not look as good with gaps and tear out. I don’t know if it would be easier in a different wood or if the Oak I had was not the best but it was very easy to get tear out. Scott I did spend a lot of time measuring and marking out.
What is the easiest most forgiving wood to work with?
I just looked to see if I had a photo of the back face to post , I did not take one I wonder why that was!!!
Don’t beat yourself up Dave it’s a fine job. We are our own biggest critics. I am just as bad.
Most doors use to be made with wedge tenons and in their own way have some beauty.
Out of the woods I have use lately Walnut is my favourite is it any easier than other wood probably not. I like Maple, Cherry , Oak, Ash, Beech, and if you can get it a decent bit of pine.
All have different characteristics which make working with wood so great.
