John Moore, Thanks greatly for this post, and respondents,
One is never defeated when one is learning. There is no better way to learn then through our miss-steps or mistakes in judgement. If we are not making mistakes we are in fact not learning anything. In the western world we frown upon mistakes as some form of personal inadequacy. This is a sad and wrong headed idea and it is well worth the rejection of it.
Every mistake we make is as important (even more so) than every correct thing we do. Success lies in being able to identify problems and or mistakes as they occur and then move into ‘solve mode’. Then the real learning process begins.
The box is unimportant next to our ability to make it. Sharpening our tools is good,..sharpening our abilities is greater!

I have recently finished a nice pine one for a gift, decided I wanted to try oak.
Holy moly!!! What a difference in cutting between the wood types. It did not come out horrible, but am not happy either. It is the journey though, pine took some time to get the hang of, practise practise practise….. Thanks everyone for being open to sharing and to John for starting. Happy Thanksgiving to all in the US this weekend.
