Welcome! / Forums / Project Series / Craftsman-style Lamp / battery light
i have just bought a battery operated light as an alternative to hard wiring my lamp it gives a very subtle light which would be ideal for a night light for a childs room i think i’m putting the cart before the horse as i’ve not built my lamp yet
Hey Eddy,
I was thinking about the same thing for my light. I wonder what light bulb to use for four D-cells(6 volts)? I used a candle in a couple of mine. If anyone feels brave enough to go that route be sure to use a metal candle holder with a metal bottom. One gal in our club used a wooden candle holder and when the candle burned down it caught the base on fire.
Have you considered the 12v inspection lamps used for garages? If you run them at 6v you get a nice golden glow. You need to consider the amp hour rating as much as the voltage though. Another good option is to opt for led bulbs. They’ll run on very little for ages and aren’t at all difficult to wire up. You can even make them flicker like a candle.
