It’s time again to gather round and have a look at some wonderful pieces sent in by the community!
Dining Chair by Brian Ensberg
Grooving Planes by Rob Foster
Made these from spalted beech and walnut using the sandwich method. Two sizes- 4 and 6mm. The irons are from O1 tool steel. Saw a picture on internet of something similar and thought “I can do that!”. Forgot to say – the planes are finished with 4 coats of shellac.
Keepsake Box by Paul Cullen
A Christmas present for a grand-daughter. Keepsake box in Queensland silk oak with velvet lining and a little top to keep her amused.
Japanese Inspired Table by Paul Cullen
Inspired by the Japanese bento box, this laptop table holds several bowls for different dishes comprising a meal. Table in Queensland silky oak, bowls in Huon pine (one with copper lining), cutlery in jarrah and bronze. Cutlery box in celery top pine with jarrah handle. This was a project for a course in wood design at the University of Tasmania.
The Queens vigil carving by Dudley Mendenhall
The Queens vigil. This is my first attempt at a carving. Mentioning no names but a friend of mine had done 22 years of service in 1 para, finally becoming the first para to serve as Yeoman of the guard. His wife had asked me if I could do the challenge, challenge accepted. He is forward and right of the Bobby. Species of wood is Matai, a New Zealand species and i found quite difficult to carve into. It’s visual correct to the scene in the picture that I have but unable to upload. Thanks
Tool Cabinet, in memoriam, from Lisa Burt
I hope it’s okay to honor my late father here by showing off his handmade tool cabinet, made of maple and Koa wood from Hawaii. My dad (also named Paul 🙂 was thrilled when I discovered Paul Sellers and started hand tool woodworking about 3 years ago. Since Dad was no longer physically able to do woodworking, he gifted me all of his beautiful tools, however, he still wasn’t emotionally able to part with his beloved tool cabinet. My dad passed last March and his cabinet is now in my workshop, reunited with his tools, as well as a couple of Paul Sellers router planes and a Paul Sellers tool carrier I made. I feel a great connection with my dad every time I’m working wood at my bench (another Paul Sellers project!) Thank you!
Picture Frame by Lisa Burt
I made Paul’s Mirror Frame (Sellers Home project) from Douglas Fir, maple, oak and walnut to frame an antique hand-colored 1870’s map of Ohio and Indiana I’d been hanging onto for many years. This was a deceptively challenging project!
Reshaped Saw Handle by Lisa Burt
Inspired by Paul’s handsaw handles, I re-shaped my rather clunky looking Spear and Jackson saw handle (before, left). It now looks and feels much better in my hand now. Thanks Paul!
Tool Chest by Lisa Burt
Made Paul’s tool chest from oak and hard pine for my grandson’s 17th birthday, to store his beloved knife/pocketknife collection and other treasures. The drawers are lined with suede and I used solid brass piano lid knobs for the drawers, along with a quality brass lock and key. He loves it.
