Introducing Phil
This website was launched nine months ago as an experiment. We wanted to see whether we could really help to train people using online videos as a medium. It has developed and grown in some great and unexpected ways. Along the way many of the members have acknowledged the fact that there must be more than just Paul to make all this happen. This is very true. There has been help and support along the way from many ‘behind the scenes’ people who I hope to thank publicly on this blog in the future.
I am excited to introduce Phil Adams who has been helping out from the very beginning and who joined us in an official capacity a few months ago. Phil has been working with Paul as an apprentice for about eighteen months and his first interest is in woodworking. He has worked with Paul assisting him in classes and, in the early days, attending all the classes himself. Phil is in the position that many on this site would envy. He works with Paul on a day-to-day basis, learning as he goes.
When we were looking to hire someone to help us to continue to make this site and the videos even better we could have looked for someone with a degree in film studies or someone with broadcast experience. However, it didn’t seem quite right. Based on what we hear from members and students there is no need for over-produced videos or insanely artistic but useless camerawork. Our goal right from the beginning has been to try to give members a taste of being in the classroom with Paul. We couldn’t think of anyone to develop this better than someone who is already interested in what we want to convey, pure woodworking.
Phil has been working to develop his media skills beyond what they already were, a sideline interest. He has already worked on many of the videos you see on this site. He has worked in as many aspects as he is able to. He has done camerawork, lighting, audio monitoring, editing and website admin.
He is going to continue to hone his woodworking ability and hopefully his work on Woodworking Masterclasses can become a way that he can share his own experience of working as an apprentice from a master woodworker.
His username is @phil. Feel free to ask him questions.
P.S. There are more introductions to make but I will do them one at a time.
Thanks for this introduction. He already answered questions on the forum, which is very helpful. Keep up the good work and he might be the luckiest man on the planet. Working with Paul everyday must be an enjoyable journey.
Thanks Joseph, well done Phil. Way to work guys, great job everyone. 😉
welcome Phil aka most envied apprentice keep up the good work many people want your job 🙂
Thank you Joseph, you guys are building a great team that all us members will benifit from.
Welcome Phil!! It is an honor to have you with us. If you ever want to try you hand at a Steel Mill, I will gladly trade places with you! You are in a wonderful position with a great group of guys, a position like this is very hard to find in this day and time. Make the most of it and share it with the rest of the world. You are and will continue to be greatly appreciated!!
Welcome Phil and thank you for all your help. This is a great idea Joseph. As we grow there is no way Paul can be personally available to everyone. But sometimes we need more than just the opinion of our fellow students.
A bit late well done Phil.
From a very envious woodworker.
Thank you everyone for you’re warm welcome. Hopefully I can be of help as we all progress in our apprenticeships in different ways. I will try and help to keep on top of questions and discussions that are going on (-:
Phil
Congratulations, Phil! Great to have more people involved. Even better to see that WWMC, and I guess New Legacy in general, is doing so well that more staff are needed!
George.
The videos are great. Keep up the good work.
You folks are certainly doing a fine job of making the videos simple and just about perfect, as regards free of unnecessary music and clutter, and making the learning experience as close to learning in your shop as possible. Phil is certainly doing a great job there.
I’ll second that!
